Approaching horizon
As each human floats unidirectionally in time
As she approaches the impenetrable horizon
Given a final look behind, what does she see?
Is it a wasted life or something else?
Humans are funny
As David Gilmour says,
In the end, it is “only round and round,”
But most go around the round forever
What is the value of human existence?
Given an unavoidable time constraint
It appears low in reality but generally miscalculated
It may not be that simple
If one sees far and wide, around the planet
As she sees death and destruction due to greed and ignorance
Could she make a difference?
It appears unlikely
As Science and Technology ride the superior wave
Some vying for the Nobel and others something far less
As the cathedrals of education rise and fall, adding little to humanity
Where is the intelligentsia? Looks like they stepped out for Champagne
As the limo riding intellectuals work out a solution
For themselves and their handlers, descendants
As the greatest institutions stand first in line for the handout
To steal from those dying of hunger
As the developed vaccinate themselves
And deny those less developed
Get a surprise variant
To start all over again
As the ignorant deny vaccines
And the intellectuals get fully vaccinated
And both realize that it is not enough
The funny human story continues
It could have been predicted
Ego, ignorance and materialism are a potent combination
Human centric populace will continue
Till they extinguish themselves
