Disproving ET

There are good reasons why ET does not exist or at the very least not discoverable. From the moment humans looked up in the sky, they have been wondering if there is somebody out there. Once they had enough to eat, their imagination ran wild and that feeling continues. They desperately want to find something else as their lonely existence in an apparently large universe is outright depressing. Initially they invented Gods and Goddesses, but the scientific kind shun such concepts and embrace the ET.

The space agency has been wasting taxpayer resources, attempting to find these creatures from beyond the tiny blue dot in the universe. They have been listening, sending signals and overall relying on statistical probabilities. Some at the agency was confident they will find the other kind by 2020, but then we are well past that. It is shocking that the rocket scientists made wrong predictions. Engineers are likely the worst kind to hypothesize and hunt for ET as these are not deterministic or even statical questions.

There are many reasons to reject the null hypothesis that ET exists. First, there is an unbeatable space-time constraint that keeps humans bottled up in a minuscule volume. An ant in Cape Town, dreaming of New York is unlikely to ever realize it. Existence and discoverability of ET are fundamentally the same thing, if one is prevented from discovering something, one has to assume it does not exist. Second, “the conditions,” ET hunters typically prefer, water, habitable zone etc. are available in close proximity to Earth, Europa and Enceladus included, but flybys are still to discover the exotic whale poking her head above the surface. Logic should tell us there is nothing there either.

Extra-terrestrials have provided good fodder for a plethora of Hollywood creations, but if scientists apply the scientific process, they will realize that the existence of ET can be rejected with very high confidence. It is time to shut down the “search,” remote or otherwise and direct those resources to more productive efforts.
