God’s own country

At the end of the Northern Hemisphere, there is a land with hellish weather and selfish people. However, it is God’s own country, where people of different faiths come together as if they are all the same. It is a place that people from all around the world come to experience. There, kids learn the irrelevance of religion and the pain of wealth. Surrounded by the mountains on one side and sea on the other, there are nearly thirty million people, who created a different definition for agnosticism.

As temples, mosques and churches spread a narrow strip of land that Europeans attempted to plunder but failed for they never had wealth, minerals or technology. Their assets — music, literature and culture — were of little value to those who travelled long distances to steal and rape. There, a large populace learned with nearly complete literacy but they failed to advance because of incurable lethargy toward Science and Technology. Such is the irony of this land with immense advances in culture but almost nothing to show for it, its people generally give up.

As depression and alcoholism set in, as hypothesized by the Economist, the disease is a result of high expectations but low accomplishments, it always fails to reach its potential. As they spread around the World with the spirit of entrepreneurship, they continue to fail because of their cultural sophistication, something the World is not ready for.

At the end of the Northern Hemisphere, there is a land of contradictions. As 8 billion clamor to kill and pillage before their 30K days of endowment runs out, it may be useful to look inward.
