Is there a heaven?

As over 100 billion human souls wondered over time, is there a heaven? Given a limited allocation of time and space, it has been tempting to think about breaking free. The heaven fits as it lacks precise definition affording infinite flexibility. And those who could prove otherwise had already left permanently. It would be a shame if there were no heaven, as nearly 5 billion live their limited lives to reach it and the rest do the same imagining it is a myth.

The utilitarian argument for the existence of heaven is robust. It will certainly make the majority happy and it will have ambiguous and uncertain effects on the rest. The mathematical basis for heaven, however, is shaky as God seems distant and unprovable. The irrational construct of God has been a cancer on the human psyche from inception. Its deleterious effects have been compounding, leading humanity to battles, hate and near total destruction.

As heaven and hell provide a universal coordinate system, one up and the other down, it may be worth a second look. There are many questions on the properties of such entities. How far apart are they in space and time and are they noticeably distinct? The latter is a particularly hard problem as those seeking heaven seem to end up in hell and vice versa. Does it take just one wrong turn in the complex highway of life and are course corrections possible?

Is there a heaven? Does it matter?
