Next pandemic is almost here

Mosquitos, arguably the biological entity responsible for most human deaths since inception, could be getting ready for a bigger onslaught. One cannot blame them as they simply carry the viruses that bring death and destruction. The upcoming pandemic, however, could have a disproportionate effect in the tropical countries where nearly half the world’s population live. And the lack of interest by Western pharmaceutical companies in tackling tropical diseases because of lack of economics may spell doom for over 3 billion impoverished people.

Such is the state of “health,” on the planet, life spans shrink, and quality of life shrinks faster. As “technology,” advances to keep the sick on life support longer at unsustainable costs to the rest, humanity is fast approaching a break point. Meanwhile, the billionaires compete to provide “nets,” and band aids to those who can’t afford either, but not to solve problems that affect humanity. A great man wants to send his sperm to Mars to “save humanity,” while he invests to reelect a clown who prescribed bleach to cure Covid. Humans are comedians, at best, with little interest in humanity.

Institutions such as the WHO (1) have been thinking but not effective enough to make a difference. The 200 disparate countries and numerous cultures, education levels, and religions make it virtually impossible to seek global solutions. And to top it all off, countries appear to be inclined to abandon democracy and rational decision-making to elect autocrats and idiots to power.

Humanity could be in trouble with declining capabilities to solve problems at a global scale.
