Off to the races

News that the scientists at the National Ignition Facility at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory successfully produced a nuclear fusion reaction resulting in a net energy gain (1) is likely the most important technology breakthrough in a century. The ailing blue planet is fast approaching a point of no return in the climate catastrophe that only nearly free energy could help stabilize it. On the social side, inequality has been rising exponentially, driving large percentage of world population to the end of the rope, without food, shelter and suffering from endemic and persistent poverty. Here again, only free energy will help us solve the broader problem by allowing low cost manufacturing of food and shelter on demand. This will also allow the entire transportation infrastructure to move away from toxic and idiotic fossil fuels. Finally, this may help the US government to cut off all subsidies to the billionaires, trying to escape to Mars, leaving the rest of us to deal with the planet they destroyed.

That is if the World has leadership. Alas, nearly 2/3 of the World are led by idiotic leaders, in the East and the West, who appear to be close enough to blow up the planet. Mentally ill, infected by religion, planned economy ideas, crime and corruption, these leaders still have the upper hand to destroy the planet before the rest of us have an opportunity to save it. The irony is that a few people, perhaps as few as a dozen, could make decisions and take actions that will wipe out humanity or make it suffer incessantly.

We know who these leaders are. When you go to the polls, don’t think of your party, God, ideology or racism, think about a brilliant opportunity to save the planet we all love, except the billionaires on their way to Mars using our tax-money.
