The power shift

As democracies die and theocracies rise, as autocracies gain power and invade other countries and as criminals take over swaths of land through fake elections and corruption, the power shift is clearly visible across the world. The power has shifted from the majority to a few, with wealth, connections and judiciary backstops. As power brings more of it, it is a runaway process that has no definite end. As the powerless multiply seeking basic existence, the regime is amenable to the rule of the few.

A system that is ruled by a few and populated by a number of similar objects is likely more stable than one that promotes periodic regime changes or a hierarchy with diversity. Humans preferred autocracy or theocracy from inception primarily because of the stability such a system offered. As the clan elder or religious priest ruled with an iron hand, one objective was to assure that the rest are similar with no incentive to rebel. The few in the ruling class was remarkably different from the rest and the rest could never aspire to anything else. Such is the power of class, there is not a single society that could escape it. More recently, science had a feeble attempt at rational thinking but it seems to have failed miserably. Nearly 2/3 of the world’s population seems to believe in “God,” with no evidence and the rest are often confused.

The outcomes appear to be pretty clear as the rulers sell Gods, beliefs and hope, to the masses, while perpetuating the skewed system.
